Check Another Door Or Windows

Especially, if the door got locked while you were picking a newspaper or having a conversation with your neighbor, the chance of an open window is pretty high. However, we highly recommend you not to try windows on the second floor. Even if it is surely open, even if you think you can easily reach it - better don’t. You need two pins or paperclips. If you have only one, that’s not a big deal. You can cut it in half and make the “tools” we need out of it.
Now, when we have a necessary quantity, you need to bend one into L-shape (that would be our tension tool) and straighten the second one and bend only the end of it making a small “V” (that would be our pick).
Insert a tension tool in the bottom of your lock. Put the pick into the barrel and try to gently manipulate each pin, so the top pin is above the shear line.
If all the pins are right where you want them, you can remove the pick and try to twist a barrel. If you did everything correctly, you opened that lock!
Also, you can try to open a door using a credit card. This trick seems a bit too cinematic, but it may be very useful. The only thing you need to know, that is you have a deadbolt lock it won’t help. The only type of lock you can open in such a way is a standard spring bolt.
