About Oxford
The area later to become the good town of Oxford was originally inhabited by the Pootatuck and Paugassett native tribes. English settlers first migrated to the area around the 1680’s and formally incorporated the town of Oxford in 1798, giving its name after the town of Oxford back in the ‘mother country’ of England.
