About East Hampton
The town of East Hampton was incorporated in 1767. Up till 1915, it was known as Chatham. The town’s early industry started with the iron forge which supplied other industries. Being located on the Connecticut River’s eastern bank, the town was one of the state’s biggest shipbuilding centers. However, the town got famous because of another industry. In the 1800s the Bevin Brothers Manufacturing Company started to make bells for different uses, and East Hampton became widely known as “Belltown”. Interestingly, the company still exists and continues to operate today and remains one of the town’s main attractions. Modern East Hampton is a perfect destination for visitors due to its unique architecture and landscape.
