About The Colony
The Colony, also known as The City by the Lake, is located in Denton County. It was founded in 1973 as a part of Frisco. The mission was to create a dream place for family living. Even though the city is young, it has strong bonds with Texas’s early history. Its name derives from the Peters Colony, the first settlement in the North part of the state. Also, many of the city's streets were named after prominent figures of the colonization period. In 1977 The Colony separated from Frisco and became an incorporated city.
