About Tolland
Formally given its name in May 1715 and incorporated in 1722 away from neighboring Windsor, which was 20 miles away, with incorporation hoping to encourage settlement in the surrounding fertile hill areas.
According to legend, the town name is derived from that area being once a toll road between Boston and New York. Alternatively, it could be named after Tolland which is in the county of Somerset in England.
The famed (and sadly now late) horror movie director Wes Craven filmed scenes for his 2010 film, My Soul To Take, in Tolland during 2009.
