About Darien
The area later to become Darien was first colonized by European settlers around 1641, becoming the Middlesex parish in 1739, and officially incorporated as the town of Darien in 1820.
Indeed, there was discussion, debate, and disagreement as to what name to give to the new township upon its incorporation, with many potential ideas put forward and ultimately rejected, until a local sailor suggested naming if after the Isthmus of Darien is what is now Panama, the name stuck and was subsequently adopted.
It certainly flourished and became a town of renown and reputation since its founding; having been home to such prestigious names as Charles Lindbergh, Andrew Carnegie, Republic of China’s First Lady Soong Mei-ling, Christopher Plummer, Gus van Sant, Moby, and even Lesley Groves, the head of the ultra-secretive Manhattan Project which gave birth to the atomic bombs dropped on Japan in 1945.
And with a landmass of little more than 13 square miles, Darien has become one of the wealthiest communities in the continental United States, listed at #2 on CNN’s list of top-earning towns and in Bloomberg’s 2018 “America’s 100 Richest Places” which ranked Darien in the top ten.
From such humble beginnings, Darien has certainly established itself as a model of prosperity and prominence in the social fabric of the Connecticut community. We here at Sure Lock & Key also strive to be an equally prosperous, prominent, and hopefully even indispensable part of the community by providing the good people of Darien and across Connecticut with the very best 24-hour locksmith services near them.
