About Danbury
The area later to become Danbury was first inhabited by Pahquioque native Indians prior to European settlers arriving and who subsequently purchased the land from the aforementioned tribe. Danbury was officially named in 1687 and incorporated as a city in 1889.
It was sacked by the British forces on April 26, 1777, during the height of the Revolutionary War, as it was an important military supply depot for the rebelling Continental Army, leading to its burning and looting by the forces of the Crown. As a result of this pillaging, the town’s motto became the somewhat resilient “We Will Restore”.
And indeed they did; in 1988, Money magazine named Danbury as the best place to live in the USA, and USA Today named it the second-best place to live in 2015.
With the very best place to live comes an equal responsibility of having the very best services available for the community at large.
