About McKinney
The land that would eventually become the great town of McKinney was donated by local landowner William Davis on March 24, 1849. Ten years later, McKinney was formally incorporated as a township, named after Collin McKinney, a co-signer of the Texan Declaration of Independence. From a humble beginning of just 35 residents in 1848, McKinney has grown exponentially and prospered to have a current population of approximately 187, 000; home to over 2, 000 businesses; and in 2014, Money Magazine cited McKinney as the #1 ‘Best Place to Live’ in America… quite an honor, if a fully-deserved one, as any proud resident of McKinney will attest to.
