About Katy
Originally settled in the mid-1890s as a railroad town along the Missouri - Kansas - Texas (MKT) Railroad, Katy got its name from the KT stop when the Missouri waypoint was dropped.
Located at the meeting point of Harris, Fort Bend, and Waller counties, Katy used to be good for rice farming due to its fertile floodplain and its closeness to Buffalo Bayou.
Today, Katy is a central hub in the Greater Katy area, known for Katy Mills Mall, Katy High School's football successes, and its historic town square along the old MKT railroad path.
Covering an area of 14.57 square miles, Katy had 21,894 residents as of the 2020 census. It's a lively community, offering a dynamic living environment for its residents and guests.
