Vernon Hills is a village in Lake County, Illinois. It is a suburban area north of Chicago. The area was settled in 1851 but incorporated as a village in 1956. The total area of Vernon Hills is 7.94 square miles and the population is about 26,800 people, according to the 2020 census. Until the 1950s, the community was fully agricultural.
