About Roxbury
The area later to become Roxbury was first settled by Europeans in 1713 and was called by the Mahican indian tribe name of Shepaug, meaning ‘rocky water’. Originally part of the neighboring Woodbury, Roxbury was formally incorporated as a town in its own right in October 1796.
Either appropriately named or merely a name transfer from the town of Roxbury in the neighboring state of Massachusetts, Mine Hill in Roxbury has been a rich source of natural minerals and iron ore since the 18th century. The abundance of granite in the slopes of Mine Hill have provided building material for such landmarks as the Brooklyn Bridge and Grand Central terminal, both in New York City.
Famous residents of Roxbury have included author Frank McCourt, actor Richard Widmark, playwright Arthur Miller, and his then-wife, who just happened to be Marilyn Monroe, no less.
From mere rocks dug out of Mine Hill slopes, experienced and professional expert craftsmen were able to build towering and impressive architectural artifacts such as the aforementioned Brooklyn Bridge and Grand Central Terminal. We here at SURE LOCK & KEY are somewhat similar in that from virtually nothing, we built up a company that is at the forefront of providing the good citizens of both Roxbury and surrounding area, and indeed the great state of Connecticut overall, with the very best local residential, commercial, and automotive locksmith services imaginable near them… a service that will prove as enduring and lasting as those aforementioned architectural marvels.
