About Plainfield
The town of Ledyard is located in New London County, along the Thames River. It was named after Colonel William Ledyard, the hero of the Revolutionary War. The town was incorporated in 1836. Ledyard was a mainly farming community up to the 19th century when it transformed into a bedroom community of Groton and New London residents. Today, the town is famous for Foxwoods Resort Casino, a popular destination for tourists all over the state. Also, Ledyard is one of the safest communities in Connecticut.
