About East Windsor
The area now known as East Windsor was first settled by Europeans in 1633 in the area known today as Windsor, with the first English settler there, William Pynchon, also going on to found the town of Springfield, Massacussetts.
It formally separated from Windsor in 1768, becoming the town of East Windsor that year, although somewhat ironically, the residents of the newly-established town avoided the eastern side of the river because of the Podunk tribe that resided there.
In 1818, an important discovery was quite literally unearthed in the town when local resident Solomon Ellsworth was blasting a hole for a well beside his house when he came across some bones, which incidentally turned out to be the very first dinosaur bones found in either North or South America by European settlers, four years before William Buckland identified them as such.
