About Florence, AZ
Florence, located on the south bank of the Gila River, is the county seat and one of the oldest towns in Pinal County. It was founded by Levi Ruggles, an American Civil War veteran who recognized the area’s agricultural potential, in 1866. In 1875 the town became a popular destination due to the silver mines discovery.
Today, multiple state, federal, county and private prisons are located in the town. However, Florence remains one of the safest towns in the state.
