About Flagstaff
As it is known today, Flagstaff was settled in 1876 and incorporated in 1894. The city’s location along the transcontinental railroad line caused a fast and rapid industrial and economic growth. Laying near the largest ponderosa pine forest, Flagstaff became a center of the lumber industry in the state. Also, the volcano eruption in the 11th century made the nearby land exceptionally fertile and perfectly suitable for farming. Except for the lumber industry, the city became famous after Pluto was discovered in 1930.
Nowadays tourism plays the role of the main contributor to the local economy and downtown Flagstaff became widely known for its cultural and leisure activities.
