About Pawtucket
The Pawtucket region was one of the most populated areas in New England before European settlers arrived, with various native Indian tribes taking advantage of salmon and other small fish that would gather at the falls.
The first European settler in the area was Joseph Jencks, who purchased 60 acres of land in 1671 near Pawtucket Falls and established both a sawmill and forge.
The sawmill and forge, along with the rest of the town, were destroyed during King Philip's War.
The town subsequently was rebuilt and flourished, and by 1775, was home to manufacturers of muskets, linseed oil, potash, and even shipbuilding.
Pawtucket has continued to thrive and prosper over the years and is today a hub of commerce and community with many businesses and manufacturers located in the city, including the headquarters of Hasbro, the popular toy and games company.
