About Waukegan, IL
Waukegan is the most populated city in Lake County and the tenth most populous city in Illinois, USA. The number of its citizens equals 89,321 for the 2020 census. The city is a major industrial suburb of Chicago and also a local county seat. Waukegan is located on the shore of Lake Michigan at an elevation of about 650 feet above sea level. It has a famous location, the Waukegan Harbor Lighthouse ‒ one of the favorite tourist attractions.
A world-famous science-fiction writer Ray Bradbury was born here. Even though his family moved to the West Coast when he was young, he used the definition “Green Town” to describe Waukegan in his stories, such as “Dandelion wine.” Now the city has a park named after this famous writer.
