About Providence
The great modern city of Providence was established in June 1636 by Roger Williams, who left the Massachusetts Bay Colony over religious differences and, along with other dissenters, formed the Providence Plantations, which after merging with other colonies to become the Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, became a refuge for non-conforming religious dissenters.
Providence Plantations was burned to the ground in March 1676 during King Philip's War.
The charter of Providence was ratified in 1831.
The population and economy of Providence thrived after the Civil War, thanks to waves of immigration into the area; swelling the number of residents from 54, 595 in 1865 to 175, 597 by 1900.
One of the city’s nicknames is ‘the Renaissance City’, owing to the clean-up and urban redevelopment that took place during the 1990s and 2000s.
The transformation of downtown Rhode Island during its redevelopment was a tremendous achievement and showed what could be done through innovation and industriousness. We here at Sure Lock & Key have achieved something similar in that through innovation and industriousness on our part, we have transformed a dream and vision of providing the best locksmith services imaginable into a reality, ensuring that the good citizens of the Ocean State are provided with the very highest standard of 24-hour locksmith services at the very lowest prices in the current marketplace.
