About Ellington
Prior to the arrival of European settlers, the area later to become the town of Ellington was called Weexskaschuck by local native American tribes who resided there, the naming being translated as ‘Great Marsh’.
Early settlers dubbed it Goshen after the Egyptian city named in the Old Testament/Tanakh.
In 1733, Elligton was founded as a parish of the town of Windsor, but in 1768, it separated from the latter and established itself as a town in its own right.
Ellington made national headlines on January 1st, 1967, when local residents assisted a pilot, Frank Robinson, whose plane was experiencing engine failure in foggy conditions, with visibility cut to 200 feet. Under the direction of local State Trooper, Lionel Lebreche, residents of Ellington descended on the nearby unlit airstrip of Hyde Field, illuminating the airstrip with their car headlights and allowing Robinson to land unharmed and still in one piece.
Quick thinking, teamwork, community spirit, and ingenuity averted a potential tragedy and turned it into a triumph of the human spirit.
We here at SURE LOCK & KEY applaud the ingenuity and community spirit of the good folks in Ellington that night all those years ago, and we aim to live up to that sense of honor and public duty by providing the good people of both Ellington and surrounding area, and the great state of Connecticut, with the very best local residential, commercial, and automotive locksmith services near them.
